Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: If I was traveling solo, I'd be happy enough with this modest hotel room. I don't necessarily need much space, and certainly prioritize location. Insadong and other downtown spots are quite close. The hotel is modern, simple, and has a private little cafe underneath. It's not bad, especially when you just want peace & quiet after a long day. The staff, when present, are also super friendly and helpful. It was fun scrolling through Korean TV. And despite not being advertised, there is wifi!

Negative: It's a little too small. Like, basically a capsule hotel. The private washroom is the advantage here, but that is also incredibly cramped - like, no actual shower; just a shower-head over the toilet. There's a window but it is useless, as it just faces a wall. So it feels quite claustrophobic overall. It's located in a less-than-ideal alleyway, shared with a fish restaurant. Not the nicest ambiance. The alleys are full of trophy businesses, and while kind of curious, it's hardly on the doorstep of most traveler's interests. (Those interests are close-by tho) The room has a lot of little annoyances, like the lighting, which had no dim option, and the motion-sensing entry light that cannot be turned off and thus blares on in middle of the night. The room key (dispensed by a machine upon arrival) has to be inserted to use power, which I guess is typical, but always bothers me. Even when inserted, it was hard to charge all my devices with the limited sockets.

Summary: Lots of nitpicks, but fair value in the end
